A Simple Legacy

I'm not famous, I'm not talented, and I'm not someone who will fight like Martin Luther King did. I know I'm not going to be remembered by many people. What I can only do is leave a good impression on people. I want to be remembered as a good person, friend, and father to my future children. That those I touched their lives will remember me.

My Hero, My Father

He is not Mario-Maurer-looking, He is not Hulk-muscled, and He is not brained as Einstein either. He is just your average person, but He is a Hero, My Hero.

He only came from a family with a voided-wallet in the poor town of Maragondon, Cavite in Barangay Tulay-B. He wasn’t as blessed as children like me. He didn’t have the toys he wants to play and the foods he wants to eat. No gadgets such as computers and cell phones, no internet, and no money. He finished pre-school and elementary in a nearby public school with only few school supplies for them. He only had some coins for allowance just enough for buche or hopia. When He was in high school, he only brings some rice and sauce then receives some “ulam” from his rich friendly classmates. Every morning to him was as hard as doing home works today. He rides an old bicycle from his house to school, the Cavite National Science High School (he was a pioneer) which is very far if you go to it through bicycle. In those days, doing home works is really very hard because there is no internet. The only knowledge-power-plant are books which he have to borrow from the school, wherein sometimes he needs to go even if its weekend through bike. Moving on to college, he took 2 years of BS Technology in Cavite State University (CavSU). He lived alone in a boarding house which is also not easy because of his low allowance. After those 2 years in CavSU, he was hired by Sony Corporation. His job was to make picture tubes for televisions for 2 years which was in 1987-1989. In 1990, he took Nautical Science (course which seamen take) in Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI) in Manila. He lived in a boarding house in Quiapo where he met Evangeline and they had a relationship. Even though He finished Nautical Science, He never went aboard on a ship because he can’t leave Her alone. That is why he took a job in 7 – eleven. He worked there for 7 years (1993-2001) and was promoted as a supervisor during those years. It was in 1994 when He married Her and had their first children, Alyssa which is my older sister. 6 years later in year 2000, I was born. Back then we were really poor. 4 of us lived in a very small apartment and His salary wasn’t very enough for us. That’s when Evangeline started a business with Hang Ten Company. Afterwards, Ulysis resigned his job in 7 – eleven and worked together with his wife. The business was success and still going higher up to this date. His family is in peace and they’re living with relief. His third child Althea was born in 2006.

You might think his story is kind of simple, but his life was the one that was keeping us, His family alive and happy and that is how He became my Hero. Together with my Mom, they’re the best Hero Duo Ever.
I know it's not Father's Day but it without Dad my Day wont be complete
